Though clients tend to call this process developmental editing (DE), some call it substantive editing, and the Editors’ Association of Canada calls it structural, and stylistic editing. (What the EAC calls DE, my clients tend to call “publisher” or project manager. Given my choice, I’d opt for the title “queen of the jungle,” though perhaps “princess” or even “lady in waiting” is more in line with my actual authority.)
